Very insightful article....
Church: It's Time to Stop the Spiritual "Bait and Switch"(if you would like a full article, let me know and I'll loan you my copy)
Are we lying to people when we "evangelize" them by trying to get them to come to church by whatever means that interest them (men's group, golf interest club, baby sitting, etc) and then hope to introduce the "gospel" sometime down the road?
Perhaps there is something very deceptive here in the way we often do "evangelism". Come to church, you'll have a good time. Come to church, you'll meet some great people. Come to church, you'll like the donuts there.
*sigh*
Jesus on the other hand, does not meet people's felt needs or their interests. See John 6 for example. Jesus actually turns people away by making it HARDER for them. "You have to eat my flesh." See also Matt 19:16-30.
Why? He does this because people need to realize their REAL needs, not just their selfish desires.
I'm convinced that we should jettison the 'marketing' strategies that have become very standard method of evangelism these days.
