| | NEWS FROM ELDER YOREL4 IN BRAZIL Here are some excerpts from today's email: I wasn´t transfered... my address is that same one
R. Virgílio de Rezende 1160A Centro Itapetininga-SP 18200-000 It was interesting (that) we had a surprise interview with (the mission president) on Sunday, and he told me that I´d be here in Itapetininga until I learned the lesson that the Lord was trying to teach me, so I´d better get figuring out what He wants to teach me. I think it´d be kinda weird if I wasn´t transfered next transfer. This is the first time I´ve stayed 4 transfers in an area, and it´d just be really weird to stay any more than that. The next transfer day is going to be 15 january 2008.
...we´ll be having a Christmas conference on the 26th. That ought to be pretty cool. It´s just rough that we have to travel to São Paulo so much. It´s a 3 hour bus ride. 3 hours in a car isn´t so bad, but on the bus.. ugh. I´ve been talking with some Brazilians, and I´m going to get all kinds of cool stuff. Basically, you just have to trade them for something American, and they think it´s the coolest thing ever. Alot of people like the flag; there are a few who want English hymnals, and all kinds of other random things. The next items on my list to get from the Brazilians are a shirt from the polícia militar, a shirt from the army (these are like, the real shirts though, not just some lame t-shirt), and a Brazil national soccer shirt. I´ve already gotten a mail man shirt. It´s pretty nifty... Also, I thought of a few more things I´d like (not urgent). I´m going to need another box of Goody´s headache powders... ...it´s over a 100° here. The heat here is horrible. It´s not just hot like in Utah, but it´s hot and humid, and then it rains. Alot of times it´ll rain really hard really fast, and stop after about 10-15 minutes, and then it´s super humid and hot.
My recent converts here are progressing really well. Like I said, one is already a counselor in the Relief Society, the other is going to be the Elder´s Quorum secretary this week. It´s good to know that the people we´re baptizing aren´t just baptisms, but they´re lives changed that are helping the Lord´s kingdom move forward. Anyway, I'm off to work... Yorel note: It's funny to think that Yorel4 was born in Alabama, where the climate is very much like what he describes here. But he left Alabama at a very young age, and just does not remember the joys of heat combined with high humidity and steam baths following hard rains. |
