| A State of Controlled ChaosHmm... Things take longer than I want them to. Been sitting behind my desk working for a few hours (work being used loosely here... It is much more related to figuring out the ins and outs of a ChemDraw-like program that works in Linux and doesn't take forever looking at a manual to understand) on an O-Chem lab. O-Chem labs are not fun. Getting an 85% is rather disheartening when you think about how well you think you should be doing in a class you understand well. What seems to be the issue is that Chem TA's in general seem to grade far more stringently than my TA in physics. What results is some sort of vicious cycle where I don't do as well as I'd like, and then I don't like doing it because I do poorly. Then I continue to do poorly since I don't like doing it. Bah. Infinite loops are bad, especially when there doesn't seem to be an effective way around it. Oh well... At least it is only 1 credit hour... And most of the points are still to be handed out in that class...

| Colloquia are interesting...Physics people had a person come in to give a talk about his research, and what I came away with is that Russians are cool. The guy deals with emerging phenomena, and how systems can self-assemble on their own based on just a few parameters. Interesting topic that I didn't really know much about, as you sort of forget that motors and such do exist on a molecular scale as well. ASLUG installfest this weekend. I should probably tell parents about this, as I probably won't be doing as much lawn-mowing this weekend. Oh well.

| Mahoo!!!Lets see... 80 minutes till I must leave for classes, and I have comparatively little to do. This makes me happy. Some reading would be useful, as would be doing some chem questions... But other than that, the week looks pretty straightforward except for not knowing if labs will get done for physics or what exactly homework for MAT423 entails...

| Interesting...Semester begins again. For most of those I know reasonably well, this means moving back into the dorms, setting up rooms just right, etc. And then there are classes. I love classes. Will be interesting to see if I manage to survive some of the Math ones (especially 423...), as well as retaining some amount of residual sanity as the homework load becomes larger (particularly for that O-Chem lab... Insane amounts of work methinks...). Anyway, best of luck to you all, and a special note to incoming freshmen: It doesn't get any better than this, so enjoy it while you can (insert manical laughter here). Now if just they would get that alarm fixed...

| Oh noes!!! The Bookstore wants muah monies!!!Wow... Just wow... I thought I had all my books about a month ago, when I checked the bookstore, and some of my classes did not have books attached to them. However... That was only a temporary state of affairs. O-Chem lab added books (and not cheap ones either...), as did MAT 423. Now generally I'd just say "whatever", and just buy the books, but this brings my total cost for O-Chem books up to $300. For one class. The rest of my books combined did not cost that much... Is the Bio-Chem department trying to bankrupt everyone? Me thinks so.
