Two Christmas stories:
1. A church was having it's annual christmas pageant and everything was going perfect. First came in the angel in a perfect white gown and halo, next the wise men in authentic dress, and finally Mary and Joseph walked down the church aisle to the manger to the baby Jesus. Joseph stopped dead in his tracks. Instead of the beautiful baby we think of when we think "Jesus," there was a single light bulb.
One wise man muttered, unknown to the audience, "Well, Joseph.... i hope you brought cigars..." The following scene was chaos. Everybody started laughing, Joseph and Mary were rolling all over the animals nearby, and the wise men leaned on their canes to keep themselves from falling on the ground. Finally, the Angel of the Lord fell of her chair, knocking the backdrop over, completely destroying the picture.
Out of all the chaos, the congregation barely seemed to notice the fiasco anymore.... for there, shining in a world of chaos and destruction, was the light from the manger.... not only for the congregation, but for the entire world.
2. A church pageant turned into a beautiful scene when a little girl accidentally turned the letter she was supposed to be holding upside down. The little 5 year old was nervous, and could barely stand in front of the entire audience without crying, but she was brave and waited for her turn to proudly display her letter "M."
With her face lit up with a smile she did her part.... although, unknowing to her, her letter was upside down. A few older kids behind her saw what was wrong and started snikering. The little girl had no need to think it was her fault, she was doing what she was told.
But instead of wrecking the whole pageant, the little girl caused the congregation to see what Christmas was really about. The marquee "CHRIST WAS LOVE" was now displayed for all to see, bringing peace and joy to all who saw it.
This Christmas, remember what this is really about. Celebrating with friends and family and giving and recieving presents is fun... and ill be the first to tell you. Remember that our lord was born to die for us to pay for what we have done wrong in his sight. Remember to thank him for that wonderous gift.... His life for ours.
