10 reasons why I'm for Obama over Clinton

 1. Hillary claims to want to repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell" but she has been sitting on the Military Committee for 3 years and refuses to co-sponsor the bill so it can be voted on.  Boo.  Obama says he would repeal it.  Yey!  I have no desire (any more) to join the military, though there was a time when I seriously considered the National Guard because I support what they are supposed be doing (ie protecting home, not fighting in foreign wars).  But I know an large number of current and former gay, lesbian, and bi servicemen and they deserve to be able to serve their country with honesty and integrity.

2. I find the idea of a Bush-Clinton-Clinton-Bush-Bush-Clinton line of succession to be creepy and almost monarchical.  Ellie says it reminds her of the first families of the Roman Empire, and we saw how well that worked out.

3. Hilary has said that she will not repeal DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), Obama says he will.  DOMA is what is preventing Di and I from getting married on a long weekend in Massachusetts and having it be recognized in whatever state we choose to live.  I hate the idea of not being able to get married in Wisconsin, but if I can force Wisconsin (via the Full Faith and Credit Clause) to accept my Massachusetts marriage, you bet your ass I will because it is better than nothing.

4.  They have both taken more contributions from pharmaceutical companies then I am comfortable with, but Obama talks openly about Universal Health Care while I feel like Hilary just talks around it.  Given that I don't know how much they could actually do on this issue, since it would depend on Congress, I have more hope for Obama than Hilary.

5.  Bill Clinton is a douche.  He has been acting extra douche-y, saying really strange, mean, and borderline racist things about Obama that make me uncomfortable.  I have a feeling that if she is elected he will be a pain in everyones ass for the next 4-8 years.

6.  I am a sucker for Obama's oratorical style.  I like watching him give speeches, he makes me feel things, and I've thought that since seeing him at the 2005 Democratic Convention.  Watching Clinton talk is like watching paint dry.

7.  Obama has a much better website, where his stances on key issues are clearly laid out, so it is easy to find out his positions.  Hilary Clinton must have hired some crazy drunk moles to write her page, because it isn't browsable.  I know campaign sites are designed to sell you a candidate, but Obama's site makes it easy to be sold, as opposed to making your head hurt from fake-y spin-talk.  And McCain's site is even worse.

8.  Obama has more political experience.  He has been a politician longer.  She did some admirable stuff, but she has only been a senator for a few years and never held an office before then.  Being First Lady does not make you qualified to be president.

9. Her latest ad is appaling.  It says : ""It's 3:00am and your children are asleep.  There's a phone in the White House, and it's ringing. Something is happening in the world. Your vote will decide who answers that call.Whether someone knows the world's leaders, knows the military, someone tested and ready to lead. It's 3am and your children are safe and asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?".  You know, I expect that kind of cracked out Orwelian politics of fear from GW Bush, not someone who is supposed to stand for more integrity then that.

10. There is no vagina litmus test.  Hilary Clinton has, on numerous occasions, implied that women should vote for her because she is a woman.  I LOVE the idea of having a woman president, but if I choose to vote for a woman, it will be because I really believe she is the best person for the job.  I like that Obama is talking about healing partisan divides and working together.  I don't think she can do that.  And I'm not going to put my opinions and concerns on hold because she has a vag.

I'm part of the librarian blog ring even though I'm not a librarian and I never look at the blog ring. But I love your site - from Firefly to your love for Obama (and your good reasons for it) to the way you look like a friend of mine from college. Best of luck to you in your studies and damn the DOMA indeed!
