| changeDear Xanga Friends,
As you might have noticed, I have not written anything in a long time. Unfortunately, I have created a persona on this blog that no longer suits me, so I find it difficult to write here. For this reason (and several other reasons that probably only make sense to me), I have decided to move. I hope THIS NEW, SOON-TO-BE-FANCY BLOG will inspire me to write with greater frequency. Maybe with greater substance and charm, too. We'll see.
Please don't stop visiting just because I have a new address. Those of you who still visit anyway. It's been real.
Your friend, Micah

| sickoyesterday i vomited for the first time in a full decade. exorcist style. fortunately, this delightful event took place in the comfort of... a public restroom at the kentucky junior beta club convention. where i was responsible for the well-being of a small herd of middle schoolers. i officially blame the tuna salad sandwich i ate for lunch, but it's also possible that my little puke-fest was brought on by one of the fourteen cheesy campaign speeches (by students running for state junior beta club offices -- who cares??) i had to endure. i think i hurled during speech #7.
i'm still making a pathetic attempt at recovery. and did i mention that i'm on spring break? where is the justice in this? in two years of teaching, i've had to use zero sick days. then my first real sickness comes when i can't even call in and get the day off.
special thanks to tom, my beta club co-chaperone who picked up my slack yesterday and periodically checked to make sure i was still alive. and special thanks to daniel, who has gone to great lengths to be a good nurse for me today.
here's to good digestive health!

| because i'm usually such a pessimistit occurred to me yesterday that i tend to be whatever the opposite of a pollyanna is. thus, i give you a list i am entitling "good things of late." behold!
1. last week, i had a christian hip-hop artist come and perform for our middle school. the seventh grade english teacher and i finished up our poetry units with a "coffee house"/poetry reading sort of thing, which became a slightly different animal when my new acquaintance flame agreed to join us. he did a great job, he presented a powerful message (despite the restrictions of modern public schools), the kids loved him.
2. yesterday, my 8th graders pulled off a rather successful community service project, which we called "top the tent." we set up canopy tent things outside kroger and wal-mart (on a darn cold day, i might add) and collected various items for seven different local charities. our goal, as you might have guessed, was to fill both tents to the top, and we went well beyond that. we ended up collecting about 80 boxes full of canned goods, cleaning products, diapers, personal hygiene items, etc. besides doing a lot of good for some worthy agencies, it's just fun to see 8th graders get involved in something entirely not self-serving.
3. today daniel got to baptize three of our youths. the past few weeks have been pretty exciting, as we have seen much spiritual fruit in the lives of our kiddos. PTL! this point is the shortest because it is the most significant, and i have less rambly stuff to say about it.
4. and finally, my birthday is friday. and it's a real birthday! to celebrate, daniel and i are driving to nashville to kidnap a couple of friends who will then drive with us to arkansas to run (or run/walk in our case) the little rock half marathon. i have already made the it's-my-birthday-so-you-have-to-do-what-i-say request that i not have to put my cyoo-ute nephew down unless absolutely necessary. i'm anticipating a fun weekend.
