excerpt from "Consider My Servant Job" by Paul Ciholas

referring to Job 1:7
"As long as Satan will be searching for his victims, the question will remain relevant: 'Whence have you come?' For when we approach God and seek to live according to his purpose, he knows and we know whence we have come from the restlessness of the world, from the tribulation of human events, from the feeling of discouragement, from the lack of faith, from the failure to hear the message, from the twilight of moral and spiritual exhaustion.  And then, contrary to Satan, when we hear the question from God addressed to us personally, we may detect in it his fatherly compassion and his offer of redemption."

There's such a simplicity in these children songs.

Alleluia Anyhow

E

Alleluia anyhow (anyhow)

Never never never let your troubles

B

Get you down (get you down)

E

When life’s troubles come your way

A

Hold your head up high and say

E B E A B

Alleluia anyhow

Hey I haven't been writing much on my xanga anymore.  Hmm, yea, sometimes I feel it's hard to describe the things I've been through, the feelings, the events, into written words, they're just not enough to describe them.  Thinking back, I feel like I've changed quite much this year, even though it's only been 3 months lol.  Though some of the changes are questionable in terms of its benefits, but I'm still so grateful and happy for these changes, cause it's better to have changes than to stay in the same plateau.  I think an essential part of being a Christian is the continual prescence of changes; how can we possibly stay the same following Christ?  I just thank all the people who's been with me, supporting me through the ups and downs, praying for me, and helping shape me.  Thank you soo much, I love you guys .   I'm so happy that God has put me in Binghamton and in BASIC with all you brothers and sisters to look up to.

alternate realities

So in this class, we're learning about wars, the victims, the perpetrators, the unspoken truth, etc.  And for one of our hw, we read this article/chapter about what the author called, "the mythic reality."  That in times of war, we enter into a reality that's different from our day to day perception of reality, the "sensory reality" where everything is perceived with rationality and well with sense.  In mythic reality, things are simplified, the opposing player in war is the monster, evil, and lacks morale, and we are the good ones, the righteous, and justified; and so it's called mythic reality because these simplified concepts are found in fairytales and myths where the evil ones are actual monsters, and the good will always prevail in the end.  The author also mentions that even when there's no war, we constantly travels through different realities, sort of the alternate realities.  I'm beginning to notice the differences between my daily activities, to the extend of what would fit into this definition of alternate realities.  It's amazing how we can be moved to become so different.  For example, when one watches a video clip showing these innocent kids in Africa, we're moved with a strong desire to help, possibly saying things like, "I want to do international ministry."  And then we watch an episode of The Simpsons, and we return to our American life, and laugh at crude jokes they make.  Or when the world suddenly seems to fade while you sit at the drivers seat, trying to control a car spinning out of control on the highway, and then to return to being a student a couple hours later when you come out safe and sound.  I think about how at this moment so many people are experiencing this reality in completely different ways, some dark and hopeless, some colorful and satisfying.  I don't like the term "mythic reality" because its connotation implies that the reality perceived is not truthful, that it is twarted for some conspiracy or something.  Hmm I don't like how philosophical it's getting, I wish there was a clearer picture/answer.  It's just so bizarre that our minds are capable of bending our perception of this reality so easily.  What does this mean?
