| We've arrived...Tim and I arrived safely in Seattle after 2 and a half days of driving. I left feeling rushed...I overestimated how much more packing we had to when our friends arrived to load the truck. We rushed (trying to do everything in daylight) and had most of it packed before folks left. We stayed up until one doing more packing and cleaning, and with our friend's Jonathan's help, were on the road by 11:30 am. It has never felt so good to start driving...tearing up at the thought of leaving Madison, but so grateful for having wrapped up well at work, and having all the packing done. Our truck will arrive on the 10th, and will hopefully be unpacked quickly...we don't have a lot of acquaintances here, so the more help we have the better! It's been fun to spend some time with the Albrechts (a family we know here) and have some time to explore the city. I've actually moved to Seattle without ever having been here before - crazy! It's such a mix of urban and nature, which is really neat, but strange! It'll take some getting used to. We've visited the farmer's market near our house (they set up once a week) and the public library, where I'll keep job searching. Tim is enjoying working away from the office, and will be doing some more intentional job searching in the next few weeks. Let me know if you're ever in the Seattle area. We'll be happy to house you. ;) | | |
| Seattle, Seattle...So, Tim and I are looking to move to Seattle at the end of August. It's exciting and of course a little sad. Pray for us if you think about it as we: look for jobs (most important), look for apartments, and try to wrap up in Madison well. We feel very much in limbo, but hope to have things firmed up once at least one of us has jobs. If you've been to Seattle, what's one fun thing you've done there? | | |
| July 9th...Happy Birthday Little Bro! | | |
| I should be job searching, but instead I keep day dreaming about when we'll have new (better paying jobs) and what we could do with that money. I'm actually looking forward to being able to give more to friends and good causes, but admit I am also a material girl. Things I would love to buy when there's a bit more cash flow: New furniture. We were so blessed to get great quality hand me downs when we got married, but we are in need of a few things, like curtains and bookcases and a huge 6 ft. tall mirror. Tons of cool and eclectic picture frames. I love the idea of putting up lots and lots of photos of our family and friends. Art from Etsy.com. Love this place to find handmade art and gather ideas. So fun! A new road bike. I haven't biked in a while, and am a little embarrassed by my old, beat up ten-speed. I was lucky to be able to buy a road bike so cheap for the triathlon training and all (so long ago!), but still…I hope there are more sprint triathlons in my future and a better bike to train on. A new paper trimmer. I'm totally wanting to buy the new Fiskar's 12 inch rotary trimmer, but am not mass-producing greeting cards at the moment, so feel a bit guilty at such an extravagant paper cutter. Someday, I'll get one. A cute little 2-3 bedroom house to put all this stuff I want to buy. I definitely don't want an oversized house, but I would love to have enough space to have a home office, a stamping and card-making corner, and room for guests. The good thing about not having all this stuff now, is that when we move, we won't have to pack it! Okay, back to looking for jobs! | | |
| Short story...An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.
One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot Arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course , the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.
After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."
The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, You water them."
"For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this Beauty to grace the house." Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. | | |
