Finally it is coming to the end of my "study life".  Kind of feeling like missing out something... but just can't clearly describe what it is.

#107 The First 1M GBP

Today I was having lunch with some interns in the UBS balcony.

Just outside UBS there was an exhibition about luxury life.  Properties in Dubai, super cars can be seen everywhere in the Boardgate circle.  1 of the leaflet saying that "Affordable millionaires".

So after we bought our lunch, we were talking about, when will we get our first 1M GBP.  One of them saying that, "5 years".

O, are you joking me?

1M in 5 years?  Which means 200k per year, 16667 per month?

That's HKD 260000 per month!

What I could only think of at the moment was, "good luck, I don't really think that's possible".

But anyway, I am definitely going to achieve that, hopefully in 10 or 15 years time.

One of the company which I am always admiring, Firedog studio, are going to be shut down because of losing money for consecutive 8 years, with a total amount like 8M HKD.  When I heard that, I was terribly sad.  That's the only game company in HK which is really paying efforts to make good games.  After that, I have set myself a target.  I have to get loads of money, at least 20M HKD, for me to set up a game company like that.

I have just read an entry of my friend, saying that he is regretting to study computer science, because he would rather get a nature-related job.  He mentioned that, if both jobs have same wages, he will definitely get the nature one.  I just don't agree with it.

1st, I don't think there will be nature-related jobs which will have the same salary as a IT-related job.  So, if there is a higher salary IT job, will you get that?

2nd, if you really like to do it, why you have to think?  I will definitely take what I like to do, even I have to pay for it.

That's why I said that "proposition" is meaningless.  It is something like "If I can choose to sit here for getting 1M HKD or to work for getting 1M HKD, I will definitely choose sitting there."

For my case, "If the IBank job and game development job have same salary, I will choose the game development".  But the point is, generally you can't find a game development job which has the same salary as an IBank job.  But now, I will be still doing my IBank job, because my short-term target is to gather capitals, for my ultimate target.

The 20M HKD I said before, I have already got mentally-prepared to lose them, in order to achieve what I am always dreaming to do.

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

p.s. May be my bad use of languages make him feeling bad.  So, apologies here.

#106 Tell me where and I tell you when

As I remember in Sept last year, I was playing a game called company of heros.  When I clicked on a group of engineers, I heard "Tell me where and I tell you when".  This just burnt deep in my head.

I think, this is the pride of engineers.

As an enginner or scientist, you have to believe nothing is impossible.

Today I talked to my line manager for the upcoming projects.  We made some discussions and she had 4 projects for me to do before I leave UBS.  Asking if it is a bit too much for me, I answered, "Should be alright.  I don't think I will be having problem to finish all of them."  1 of the project was from the ETF desk people, which I promised him to finish in 3 days.  However just after the call I used 2 hours to implement it and got it working.

It felt so good to get the job done,  especially when you got that done much earlier than estimate.

Engineers may not be proud of themselves, but must definitely proud of their works.

So, tell me where and I tell you when.

#105 Life is a laugh

Today when I was taking the tube back home, I saw one advertisment saying that "Life is a laugh"

Ya, life is a laugh, but it has missed one sentence behind it.

"It is a f**king black comedy."

Sorry, but I am a bit too stressed.

For a country which has a large population in the east, people said it is famous in software engineering and cheap labour.  For me, it sounds like all b**locks.  Those people don't have brain at all, how can they program!?  They are all just bl**dy machines with no reasoning!  They don't have eyes and ears.  Won't read and won't listen.  Just keep asking you stupid questions which are having the same grade as "is your mother a female?".  For God's sake, use the god damn common sense and RTFM!  If I do all the things for you, why the hell we need to employ you?!

Sorry again, I think I am really stressed.
