There have been fires everywhere, spreading to wider areas. It is quite scary watching the news, looking out the window and seeing the sky covered with smoke.

Last thursday, i believe, was the first day i saw this whole thing started. i guess it started on wednesday night, but on thursday morning when i went out to walk the kids before the work, the sky was covered by what it seemed like purplish white thick clouds. and surprisingly, the sun was like a ball of fire, burning red! of course, i freaked out and wondered what the heck was going on... later, i found out that it was because of the massive fire that was going on... and as the days pass, there have been two more fires developed, and the fires spreaded massively!

they said that this is the most devistating fire in southern california ever in a decade. so far, 13 people died and over 1100 homes were burnt and destroyed, and over 400,000 acres of earth were effected by fire. the footages they showed on the news are really... devistating. the houses are burnt to the ground, leaving nothing but ashes. Simi Valley, east of San Bernandino, and San Diego county areas are the ones that are being effected. and the place where I live, Burbank? it's kinda in the middle of Simi valley and San Bernandino, closer side of Simi Valley, but thankfully, our neighbor areas are safe so far. On the other hand, our studio is closer to where the fire is on Simi Valley. at this very moment, the sky outside of our studio is purplish redish thick white... on the way to work from my apartment, i could see the hill(valley) on the fire... i'd never seen anything like that. the left corner of the hill was smoking up and covered by thick smoke! the giant hill looked almost like a peice of cigarrett burning down little by little... all the birds were flying against the fire smoke and cops, firetrucks, news helicopters were flying or driving into the thick smoke. can you believe it? how crazy.... yikes.

my boss said from his house, he could see the fire. if the fire spreads over the hill, his house will be in danger, too. the producer of our new show, his car that was parked by his studio was covered in ashes. when you look at the footages of vast land in fire, it almost looks like the volcano has errupted or something. :( no wonder why it's so hot at night. since california has a desert weather, although it's burning hot during the day, it should get cooled down at night, but past couple days, even though the fire is quite far from my apartment, it just heated up the whole surrounding area....

please pray for those who lost homes, families, works, etc. ... and hope. This is the time when the prayers are needed the most and God's comfort is needed the most. i can't imagine losing everything in the flame of fire, not being able to do anything but watching your house disappearing into the ashes. Hope that the wind will die down which will help controlling the fire and people will be able to evacuate safely. ...i am just reminded again how helpless us human powers are against nature... against God. i really really hope that nobody that i know was effected by this fire... hope that God will give the victims new hope in Him and strong faith in Him in this time of difficulties........

Wednesday, October 22, 2003

hallo hallo, everybody~

oh dang... it's been quite a while since the last time i updated... whew~ haha.. i'm abandoning Xanga and leaving to other sites... kkkk :p since i came to Cali, i've found and got closed to my korean side a lot. (they have korean tv channels here!!!!!!! and soooo much great korean food restaurants and cheap stores and everything!) and... that kinds gets me wanting to go back to my country quite often from time to time. hehe.. depends on how works go and the issue of working visa go next year, i might go back to korea for good... hehe, still thinking tho. still thinking...

oh, if you're korean(or can read korean), come visit my new website at www.cyworld.com/yunitoon. it's a great great great website to get in touch with your friends and family and let them know how your lives are. i would say it's better than xanga. (sorry, those of you xanga fans..) but it's true. you can decorate your room with little version of you(character) and can have a pet and all sorts of things... update pictures, draw pictures, put lists and lists of songs, write diaries, etc. cyworld rocks! i've been updating this site everyday since i can talk to my family and friends both back home and in the states(those are korean) through the site. so, if you can read, come visit. :P

On the other hand.... my life has been pretty good... except the fact the popcorn and nacho destroys everything in the house... they so far chewed up the carpet, brand new sofa, vertical blinds, bed frame, mattress pad........ yeah, endless. and it sure drives me crazy, but- i can't really blame them since i'm the one who leaves them home for 8~9hours a day, all day... they must get really bored and angry... but i can't bring them to day care, because they're spayed and neutured. oh well, i just gotta suck it up and find the better way to confine them. aiya~ despite that, they keep me company and help me escape from tiredness and loneliness.

i didn't think i will ever say this... but- it is definitely better when you are in school. when you are in school, you just wanna get out and don't have to worry about homeworks and exams and such. but LISTEN! it is better when you are in school, trust me. working in the office, in front of the computer for 8 hours a day, five days a week... isn't as easy as i thought it would be. i think my eyesites are getting worse every day... my shoulder and back aches more and more... i come home 7:30 or 8 at night, so after you give dogs a walk, eat dinner, you pass out... don't have much time to do ANYTHING. whether it's just hanging out with your friends, or going out for fun, or doing some art work of your own, or even watching your favorite tv show late night... oh and of course, now that you're on your own and earning money, everything is your responsibilities and coming out of your pocket... yikes.

oh sorry, there sure are great things about being out of school, tho. you have your own career now!!!!! oh yeah~. now i can go anywhere and say i'm an ANIMATOR! and that's cool~. of course, meeting great great beteran artists and animators and beyond your imagination! you get to see their original work, how they work, and most of all, you get to work WITH THEM! amazing, indeed... (although...

Wednesday, September 17, 2003

Favorite music video of this month...

i just turned 23 yesterday! can you believe it? oh my gosh... it was a busy day.. oh, for those of you who haven't heard from me, i started working at a small animation company in southern california called KMC Films, this tuesday. hehe... it's been great. i've been meeting a lot of talented artists here. although what i do at this point is very little and still in the learning process, it's just awsome to be surrounded by great artists. coming to work and working all day long from 10am to 7pm isn't easy, tho. as if i did some major work out, my body aches and i get soooooo tired by the time i get home. no time to do anything, aiya~! but i guess this is a happy complain... (well, i shouldn't complain at all, i know) ...hmm.. what else. my new apartment is NICE~ and big! it's 770 square feet, one bedroom apartment with fireplace, balcony/patio, swimming pool with zaccuzi, fitness room. i haven't got much furnitures, so it's like a huge playground...(esp. to popcorn and nacho.. they race each other all the time.. hehe) and our apartment complex is surrounded by Disney, NBC, Warner Brothers studios. (there is actually a WB mansion right across... crazy, huh) well, i'm dreaming that one day, i will work at WB... one day.... puhahahahaha ... come, come! my house is open and welcome to everybody who wishes to visit and stay. aiite? ;) well, kids(popcorn & nacho) are doing great. they love it although they have to stay home all day by themselves... but because the weather is nice and there are grass yards and big parks everywhere, they love going for walk four times a day and run around in the big, carpeted house. they've made a lotta friends already, too. and because of them, i got to meet many people in the neighborhood. it's awsome! (did i mention...? i love you, kids!)

like always, my birthday was... pretty uneventful. ...haha... -_-;; it's nothing new.. since i came to the States, especially since i've been in college, i don't think i'd ever celebrated my birthday.. it's bad time, you know. beg. of the school, a lot of ppl are not back and all... and this year, i'm here all by myself.. again.. hehe. this year, i didn't even get to blow candles.. (i was too busy to buy a cake for myself ;p) oh well. i haven't made that many friends here, yet.. it is hard. i leave early in the morning and get back late home, and plus, everyone at work is much much older than me. (my parent's age) well, once i choose the right church and start going there, i guess i will make more friends.. who knows? i will have a birthday party with my family next year...... :p but, there were few friends who called me up to congratulate my b-day. (thanx so much you guys- junarm, go, clara, bohyun, sungman...!) got me all teary... hahahahaha and sungman treated me out for sushi which was awsome. thanx oppa~! oh, and of course, my kids were there for me and licked my face, giving me kisses, ... kept me busy.

...getting old is a weird feeling. kinda exciting, worried, scary, and.. nostalgic. i don't know how days and years fly pass by so fast. i'm just hoping that next year, i will be able to spend my birthday with my families back in korea... my family is going through a little bit of difficult time(esp. my aunt's family..), and- it kinda saddens me to know that more and more of my family are leaving... or disappearing... or separating... without me being noticed. this is the time when i hate and regret the most to be so far away in the States. i'm always one beat late for everything for/about the family. it kinda... sucks. i wish all the nations are connected somehow. all cluttered close to each other, so no matter what country you live, you have no problem seeing your beloved people. ... hehehehe... i'm being too sentimental. soweeeeee~~~. i've been sick with stomach virus thing lately, and not having my friends and family here with me on my birthday got me into it. keke..

BUT! God is great and awsome. He still gives me strength and reasons to stay optimistic and happy in any circumstances. Because of His grace and protection, i can be here right now, without having to worry about being separated from my kids or getting jobs or being forced to leave the country... i try my best to look at what i have and be grateful, although it gets difficult at times. i just hope that He will continously show me His will and His endless love so that i will be able to follow Him with complete trust. you can pray for me for that, instead of saying belated happy b-day!! kyakyakyakyakya.... well, i hope everybody is doing good, whether it's looking for jobs or starting a new school year. ... and... of course, i miss you soooooooooo sooooooooo much!!!! muah muah! God bless you all.... May God show you His faithfulness and love for us all in a way He showed them to me.... you know, you are always in my prayer~!!

Friday, August 08, 2003

ok.. there are few more items i'm selling.

well, to keep things short, there will be popcorn & nacho's birthday party/moving-away party at my place this friday, the 8th, around... 5 or 6ish? if the weather permits, we'll try to have some barbeque out in the yard. we did it about a month ago with some neighbors and friends, and it worked out great. but it will be nice if people brings a dish, drinks, or desert! ..like a... pot-lock? pot-luck? pot-log? pot-..... anyways, you know what i mean~.

(hope you can picture me with my own animal shelter, too.... -_-;;) how sweeeet~! you gotta marry someone who loves animals like you do, who doesn't have allergies... hahahahaha me? i'm gonna marry a vet! hahaha hopefully. we'll see.

anyways, if you need any kind of help, let me know! hopefully i'll have my shelter before you have your zoo, so i can hook you up with some people or something ;) like i said, it's just great to find somebody who shares same kind of dream... it's very encouraging. i have a close friend/neighbor who has a dream of becoming a vet although she goes to risd right now. i think it's great! although some people complain about her in film department, she shares same dream and passion for animals with me, and- that's good enough reason for me to be a friend with her. ^-^ and i'm just glad that a sweet and gentle hearted person like you, tj, shares same kind of love for animals... like i said, it is very very encouraging.

i know i can be little overboard sometimes, but i can't help it. to be honest, i love animals more so than people sometimes. my parents have been asking me if i got a new boyfriend-future husband material person, they mean. well.... despite the fact that i used to have a crush on somebody a little while back, no. not yet. for now, i think my love for my two children(my dogs-popcorn and nacho) are too great that i can't really share my love with someone else. i know that sounds wrong. and weird. but- that's my honest opinion. it is the greatest joy of my everyday life to see their lovely faces looking into my eyes, asking for my attention and love... it's a great feeling to be needed and loved. am i lonely, and maybe that's why i'm pouring out so much love to them? ..perhaps.. but they're there for me when i need them. when i'm down, there are always there to cheer me up and to make me laugh without saying anything. i don't have to tell them anything and i can tell them anything. they just know my moods and emotions by their instinct and love me no matter what. even if i don't give them food for days, they love me for who i am. ...ok... i'm going overboard again. i become so emotional when i talk about my kids and animals.... whew~~~

well, i know a lotta people think i'm weird calling my dogs, my children. they say, "dogs are dogs, yuna." even my parents say that and they are telling me to get rid of popcorn if i happen to go back to korea. WHAT?! i think you guys are insane. they're my family. you don't just leave your families behind because you're moving to new house, do you? dogs are dogs, so what? they're also family. my real children will grow up with our pets as their brothers and sisters. my mom tells me i can't change my life according to dogs. i'm NOT trying to adjust my life according to dogs, but trying to work it out so that my family won't be broken up to pieces. i went through that once before. it ain't pretty. growing up without father figure and being raised by grandparents wasn't exactly regular family... or a family to begin with. i came to the states to find my own family that i can belong to, that i don't have to worry about breaking up into again. and i am NOT leaving my children here so that my parents won't have to deal living with me and them while i look for job in korea. i swore to myself that i am not going to do that to my children. not to my chilredn. not to my family. yes, they're dogs. but they do have feelings, they feel pain and sorrow, they get depressed, they can get stressed by just being apart from their owners for couple hours. when i bought them, i made a promise to be responsible owner and a mom, and that i will keep and provide a family till they grow old and die. ... my parents don't even know that i have a second dog. i mean~, it's none of their business if i buy another dog or not since it came out of my pocket not theirs, and it's me living with them, not my parents. therefore, i should have no problem telling them that i got another dog, but after listening to my mom telling me to get rid of popcorn, i just couldn't tell them i have another dog. now they're coming for the graduation, and- i don't know what's gonna happen to be honest. hmmm... i'm trying to find a right moment to tell them about it, but every time i try, i stepped back and discouraged. i should tell them before they see him with their own eyes when they come here. but because i know what they're gonna say, or at least what mom is gonna say... "get rid of both. or at least the new one. you didn't have it for long, so you must have less attachment to him, right?"... i can't say it. arrrrrrgggg... i'm just hoping that i will find a job in the us so that i don't have to go back to korea and therefore, i don't have to worry about dealing with my parents about my dogs.

hoa.. how did it came to this? i thought i was talking about dreams and animals in very positive way at the beginning.... well, it must be all the stress and negative energy i have these days about my dp, graduation, jobs, family, etc. arrrrgggg... just let me graduate!!!!!!!!!!! ...actually, i wanna stay in college if i can... hahaha. that will really drive my parents crazy, won't it? puhahaha
.....ok...... -_-;; back to work
peace out-----
(hope you all are having a good end of year)

Thursday, April 24, 2003

Dear friends,

I’m writing this letter to ask you to be a part of our effort to save animals that are in desperate need of help. In South Korea, where I’m from, there is an old dog-eating tradition that many Koreans are so proud of. According to the law, this is an illegal act that is certainly prohibited by the government. However, the dog trade business not only continues but also becomes larger and more competitive each year. This is due to the government that is not doing anything to enforce their laws. Also, this is due to the lack of awareness among the people in Korea, what is really going on behind the scene.

Being raised by culture that allows and proudly support such act, I was used to be one of people that neglected the serious problem in dog-eating tradition. Even those who have dogs as a loving pet and a precious part of their family members often seem okay with this issue and also enjoy dog-eating tradition themselves. As I grew older and became a mother of two loving dogs, I’m starting to realize how awful and inhumane it is to abuse and savagely kill these animals. As you can see from the pictures below, the condition these animals are in before they’re killed and the way they’re treated and killed are beyond our imaginations. Here is the article that is posted on Korean Animal Protection Society’s website:

“There are more than 30 huge cages at stores in the market place, crammed with more than 800 dogs, waiting to be killed. The customers (people from dog soup restaurants) will be directed to come to see the dogs, and they themselves will choose the dog they want. When the choice is made and the transaction finished, the dog is slaughtered on the spot: the dog’s neck is held and his head is hit with a metal stick. After the concussion, an electric stick is then used to complete the killing. This happens to dogs in the market all day long.
First, the dead animal is put into a huge pot of boiling water. It is a machine for removing fur; all of it is removed by means of the fast whirlpool action in this machine. When the fur has been removed, the dog is browned by torch.
This is the process used for preparing dog meat.
This kind of slaughter is not regulated by law: to process a chicken for the market, one must follow a strict livestock sanitation and product law, but there is no law or regulation for the killing and processing of dog for the market. There is no question that the lack of guidelines presents many problems.
First, because there are no regulations, the illegal and open torture and killing of these animals on the streets causes emotional distress and disgust. When there is regulation for slaughter houses, the process of killing is confined to certain facilities, but in the public spaces anyone can see the cruelty to the dog everyday, all day long. There are no proper facilities. The sanitation problem is tremendous. Flies are everywhere.
Filthy, bloody waste water is thrown out on the street, anywhere. There is no proper plumbing. This waste water will eventually pass into the streams. Several dogs look very sick. Meat from such animals goes on the market in large quantities.”

As I was looking through these images and articles, I could not help but feeling disgusted and petrified, and could not stop weeping for poor animals that are in horrifying situations every day. It is sickening how people can be so cruel. We’re all God’s loving creation that should never be mistreated or looked down on in any circumstances. Although they cannot speak or express their minds, it does not mean that they have no feelings or emotions. And, it certainly does not mean that they can be treated in inhumane ways. The fact that we humans are aware of our sins therefore can repent and be saved by God’s mercy does not give us any right or superior privilege to attempt such a crime to other animals. Also because these acts are not regulated and happen everyday in public, it is a big problem the influence children get from growing up watching these crimes. What would they learn about treating other animals and what kind of person would they become?

How can you walk away knowing this kind of animal cruelty is happening every day when you call yourself an animal-lover? Yeah, you can say, well, it is for food anyways, right? but think about it. Do you treat other cows or pigs this way because you know you will eat them eventually? Do you confine them in little cage all their lives and just feed them more and more to faten them? Do you beat them up to death because they will taste better if they die painfully? Do you steal somebody else's purebreed pet to make more money because they're healthier and well-maintained? Do you kill one by one while others watch their companions get slaughtered right in front of their eyes? NO! Perhaps the fact that people eat dogs as just another meat source is not wrong. What's wrong is that people who raise these dogs and kill them are doing their business illegally and inhumanely. and the government is not doing anything to stop it either. i don't know. maybe they're afraid that people will start the riot since there are just too many people enjoys dog meat. or maybe they have more "important
" things to take care of instead like stealing citizen's money to their own pocket. This cruel act must be stopped at any cost, and that more people in Korea must be aware of this truth that they should be ashamed of not proud of!!!
When you go to the dog-soup restaurant, please remember that it only encourages and supports these crimes even further. Please do not take this issue lightly, and think again how a simple signature on a petition or a simple prayer for these animals and people working hard to stop this act can be a big help to start saving their lives and regain their rights and value.
