Yep, it took me only 3 weeks of living in Wisconsin before I saw my first black bear! (no, these pictures are from google...I was not able to get a picture quick enough!) I have never cussed or used the "F" word as many times as I did on Saturday after seeing this bear! It scared the holy bejeebers out of me! Thank goodness we were in the truck & that he was as scared as I was.
OK...here is the scoop... We got up very early on Saturday morning to go fish a pond up on my hubby's boss' land that he just recently purchased for hunting. He has around 1000 acres & it is about 30 or 40 miles north of us. We get to the pond which is heavy on the lily pads & doesn't seem to have many eager fish biting. So, we decide to go elsewhere to fish, but hubby wanted to drive the property line to show me the place on our way out.
about the time I noticed more water to my left & asked hubby if we were back where we started at, he told me no that we were on the border of the neighbors property now & that was his pond. Then I see something out of the corner of my eye about the same time hubby starts saying "look"...my first thought was that it was going to be a deer coming out of the woods...but nope, it was a BIG black bear. We evidently scared him as he was running so fast. I had no idea that they were that fast! I totally freaked out! lol...
This was also the first bear that hubby has seen here in Wisconsin. His boss said it took him 30 years before he ever saw one, but now that he is out in the wildnerness quite a bit, he sees maybe 3 a year. I will be reading up on bear do's & don'ts! Hubby told me that I had nothing to worry about as the best thing to do is to make a lot of noise, & I certainly screamed, hollered & cussed loud enough to scare anything away! lol.. We then drove along to find a different spot! Here's a few pictures along the way... We passed a family of pheasants. We were only able to capture the father as momma & babies went running into the weeds.
I don't know what these birds were but they looked funny just walking through the corn fields...
They were really pretty though. Like an egret or a crane...
We ended up in Brunet Island State Park. This place was beautiful. We ended up fishing here & eating our picnic lunch.
Hubby caught a couple of fish here too....
We then moved along to do more exploring. We crossed over the Chippewa River on this one vehicle/5 mph bridge.
We fished down in the river for a bit, where I caught my measly little fish!
comparison shots...

Oh well...I don't care...it's not the size that matters, right???
Some dark storm clouds move in & we decided to call it a day.
But I did capture a few shots in a town called Menomonie on the way home. This is where the University of Wisconsin ~ Stout is located.
So, this was my very exciting Saturday! It was a great day, even after my adrenaline got to rolling so much with the bear siting.
Prior to the weekend though, I have some photos to show you... First one is of 2 of my babies asleep on daughters bed. They're all stretched out & comfy!
Now just a few from around the house ... yes, I am still fascinated with the clouds!
This bloomed on my patio area
I got a better shot of one of those red winged blackbirds...
And remember those huge dandelions that I got pictures of last year when I visited here? Well, they are back!
Hubby got back home last Thursday & for our dinner that night I grilled a Tuna steak & made a spinach salad. I bought him an extra special tuna steak...this thing was HUGE!
We had a wonderful evening just hanging out together & having our special meal & a bottle of wine.
Yesterday we drove around checking out possible areas where we may be interested in buying or building a home. here's a few photos from that adventure...
We stopped at a place called Jake's Supper Club on Tainter Lake for a burger & a beer for lunch. This was a fun place. Here's some shots that I took from the table...
here's my handsome devil!
After lunch & more driving around we looked at some lots on the Red Cedar River. We stumbled across the biggest gaggle of geese that I have ever seen!
I think this one was on a pile of eggs...
We got home & ate some sushi for dinner. Daughter got home from her week back in Oklahoma. Now I just hope that she will give her new home a fair shot.
The old house back in Broken Arrow is suppose to close this Thursday! I still won't believe it until it happens. We already recieved our closing papers by Fedex last Friday & signed & returned them. Daughter went by & took these pictures for me...
I am learning my way around my immediate area a bit better each day. There isn't a straight road to be found around here though! You will be going south on one road & never turn but then be going in to whole different direction & with a new street name...so that is confusing! I have found all of the people to be very friendly & nice. I love the weather. I love the variety of cheeses & beer! lol...but most of all, I love having my hubby back in my life! I have not been around Xanga'ville for the last several days so once again I will be playing catch up.
This is going to be a short week & then a long weekend!!!! Yay!!!! I am looking forward to it.
Have a good short week.
