Well it looks like I'm able to have cake and eat it too.

I've also been accepted to the film programming internship at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for the second half of the summer!

wowza, now I need to find housing and funding for Boston too!

maybe I should sell things on ebay...

So I love how I wasn't accepted at the Delaware Art Museum nor the Phil. Museum of Art...but am accepted at the Smithsonian and the MFA in Boston. suckas...

hopefully this will lead to something...

I'm SO excited to live in Boston! I've only been there once but I loved it.

I know it's been quite a while...

But here's an update:

I'm graduating from college in 3 weeks from today. That's it. 3 more weeks till it's the end of an era.

But, there is some slight good news at the end of the tunnel. After too many resumes, cover letters, 500 word essays asking about my long term career goals...I finally heard back. Something finally has come my way! And it's a biggie...the Smithsonian!

The Folklife and Cultural Heritage Center (FCHC if you're in with the lingo) puts on a folklife festival during the summer on the mall and I'll be helping out with that. Artists from all over world come and set up tents..so there's global music, art, food, dance, etc.

downsides:

* it's a non paid internship

*it's full time...sometimes putting in 12 hour days

* I need to find housing in DC

* I'll be losing money (see above)

upsides:

* Having the Smithsonian on my resume

* Getting to meet artists from all over the world...making connections...

*living in DC

*having an internship!

So I'm slacking in my xanga-ing...slacking in general seems to be a trend with me lately. I think it's because I will soon be shoved out into the world with no direction.

It makes me feel numb. In addition, I feel intellectually and creatively numb. I need a good shake. I'm just going through the day doing what I NEED to do, not what I want to do. And if I do have time left over in the day, I just want to be with my friends.

ANYWAY....I'm back from Brasil and here are a few photos about my trip:

My host mother and sister, Isabella.

my walk to school everyday: (note the barbwire and rubble)

We did a lot of this:

and a lot of this:

and saw a lot of this: (note the ridiculous looking poodle on a beach and the bright blue speedo)

I will try to post some more photos up on the internet soon...

Oi! as they say. so i~m in Brasil, in João Pessoa, in an apt complex, in my "sister" Isabellas room. I have a mom (whos a grandma), a sister (isabella, doesnt really care about us..in her 20s?), a nephew (10 yrs old but he has been gone for the past 2 days..), and a neice, Marianna (15 yrs).

João Pessoa, the city that we live and go to school in is not what I pictured Brasil to be like. Its a big city but there only a few nice parts in it. the rest has dirt roads and sidewalks, decrepid buildings, stray dogs, graffitti, kids playing the dirt...picture a scenee from latin america. There arent really any european looking brazilians up here (as opposed to Rio de Janerio) so I stick out like SORE THUMB. EVERYONE stares at us....all the time. we are a spectacle. some women wear bags on their heads for carrying...there are fruit stands everywhere..and even a donkey cart every now and then strolls along the main streets. The juxapositions of this place ...

My portuguese is getting better...which is good bc no one in our household speaks any english.

The beaches are beautiful...warm water..waves..palm trees. perfect weather. nice breeze.

check out our school~s website if you want to see some pictures

www.portugueseplus.com

i havent looked at it yet..but there should be some photos of our trip.

thats all for now, i dont have much time...ill try to update again soon.

ps. i have about 27 mosquito bites on my legs. bah
