  • CETA Drama Festival - Day 1

1st off, let me just congratulate rachel, josh, and nicole for the awards they got for their performance.

i cant believe upland's Crucible beat ours.

sure, they hav nicer furniture, but it looks too good for the puritans, so less realistic. ya, they had fancy costumes, but everybody lookd the freakn same.

who was good: their proctor (he was on crutches, can u believe it? an accident rite before. wat a brave guy), their hale (not too easy to top medina), their parris (very evil), their danforth (way cool voice)

who sucked: all the girls. their mary was like our hale. their abigail was not sexy not scary. their giles acted like The Miser not the distinguished outspoken man that benji portrayed. their cheever was too assertive hes sposeda be a wimp (and whas with the asian cheevers?).

im not sure if this is good or bad but um.. tituba was this flip chik n had an asian accent

their cast was really good with physical, and has sum really strong acting voices. they all SOUND like good actors. but there is no characterization. on stage, they just blend together. the show was in a bigass theater, and they had mics which really took away from the show a lot and i also think prevented them from using music. in a bigass theater, they split up the stage into 2 sets which really took away the advantage and the blocking got messy.

the most disappointing thing of all is that they completely lost the DARKNESS of the play. at no point in the production did we get chills, did we feel uneasy, did we hang on the edge of our seats. and thas wat theater is all about. we can break it down into so many lil criteria, but in the end its the way the production makes u feel that counts.

  • gess wat yall? i wenta long beach today. i believe its the first time i've been there in my life. wenta watch the rose tattoo at the long beach playhouse on anaheim st. before that my gf n i ate at sophy's thai/cambodian cuisine. great stuff! had this dish, with a whole grilled catfish that u eat with minty leaves bean sprouts cucumber wrapped into a lettuce for 11.95, it was so fukn good.

well, theres 2 sauces u can eat it with: tamarind or green mango. we dint know which one, so the waiter sed "how bout both?" n we were like "ok. hey wat a nice guy."

then we get the bill. 17.95. $2 extra for the second sauce, $2 extra for sum rice that we dint even ask for, n then tax. gdammmm, greedy/tricky/cheap asians! but it was worth it.

rose tattoo was ok. not great, just ok. it had sum really cool atmospheric effects, the 2nd act was not bad, but there were too many blackouts and i gess the script itself isnt all that great.
