New FamilyCongratulations Tom and Tracy!
This past weekend must’ve been one of the busiest in my life, but at the end it was one of the most blessing moments in my life. Tom and Tracy got married. It was a long awaited moment but finally, I was able to witness my younger brother’s big day. Ok we’re twins. But still. Anyways there’s something special to it and I can’t really put my hands wholly on it right now…but it manifested its presence here and there during the weekend…and I’ll attempt to share. (pictures courtesy of Duncan, more pictures can be found on his xanga and KennyKimDotCom) A few moments captured me and will forever remain in my heart as a monument of God’s grace. When Tracy walked down the aisle, by far the brightest most elegant presence in the room, I couldn’t help but think Christ and His bride. I mean, the anticipation, joy, each step Tracy made down the isle that brought her closer to Tom…you could feel the buildup in the moment…just waiting for the inevitable. At least I did. Tom and Tracy did too…I’m pretty sure…because about halfway down the isle Tom lost it. Then the bridesmaids lost it. And subsequently all the groomsmen lost it (and most these guys are pretty tough, guy’s guys…I mean Rick freaking looks like King Leonidis…and we were all rendered to little more that a bunch of school girls). After the exchange of vows which were personally written and delivered, the Bride and Groom gave us all a glimpse of their intimate affection being rooted with prayer, a moment recounted well by Alex. “Grace like Rain” was sung and Grace Rained. Tears did too. I remember seeing Tom wipe away Tracy’s tears with his hands, they brought their heads together and they prayed. It was raw. It was real. This union was covered with prayers. From the very beginning the aim was to glorify God…and at the end we had worshiped by celebrating Tom and Tracy’s marriage under Him. Even those who didn’t believe, afterwards, told me they were blessed.
So apparently the job description of the Best Man can be narrowed down to this: make the Groom look good, let him know you got his back, and do whatever it takes to make his day, and her's, perfect. no stress. no worries. that may or may not mean picking up giant foam pillars from a church and lashing them atop a truck while fighting traffic trying to get back in time for rehearsal. indiana drivers don't drive like their chicago counterparts. thats usually a good thing, but this time it was bad. I was running on 8 hours of sleep over 3 days but during the reception when i asked Tom how his wedding day was, he replied that it was perfect. that line in the movie "Babe" suddenly seemed so relavent. "that'll do pig. that'll do." Good, because i'm about to wing my best man speech. it turned out alright i guess. it was from the heart, and thats really what matters. Dang….makes me want to get married…L one thing at a time J… I shared in my speech that in a sense I was losing my brother, but I would be gaining a family instead. That together under Christ, Tom and Tracy were more valuable and perfected than they would ever be alone. I got a double shot of that blessing this weekend as I found out on the same day I received a new brother. Well, we all did. My buddy David Huang from Port Lavaca Texas accepted Christ as his savior. David and I did investigative Bible Studies together over the summer. I asked him to continue his search for truth after I left...to keep asking the questions and wrestle with the word. He promised me he wouldn't stop. And now, after many prayers and nearly a year later...welcome to the family David! Can’t wait to visit him and the rest of the PL gang this weekend. I’ll be in Texas on Saturday for Tom and Tracy's Dallas reception. Then Austin and PL. I’m pretty excited. I miss Texas. More to come! Blessings, timbe |
