Always Good for a Laugh

I know many of you expected this post to be about you after reading the title, but, alas, it references the great Weird Al Yankovich.

Mark had me look this one up today and I couldn't sleep tonight, so I decided to listen to it, and then knew I had to share it with you.  Especially since I hate the song that he's parodying.  (new word there, yeah)

Enjoy!

Forget?

I'm tired of feeling un-American just because I am choosing not to sit by the TV and relive the worst day of my life.  Or listen to the radio like I do every day to hear people report on what is going on in New York City or scolding anyone who didn't wear a flag shirt today.  Enough already!

I will NEVER forget when I first saw the news footage.  I am still flying the American flag at my home.  My minivan still has a flag magnet on the driver's side door.  (It had one on the rear hatch but someone stole it.  nice.)  I will never forget how I prayed that Tom would be okay since he was on a plane at that same time.  And how grateful I was when he called to say his plane never left.

I won't forget.  I pray for our servicemen and women who protect our freedom every day.  I send e-mails too.  All year long.  But especially today.

I won't forget.  Now when I hear airplanes fly overhead, I flash back briefly to how weird it was to not hear airplanes for days after 9/11 and then how even weirder it felt when they did start flying again.

I won't forget.  Not on the 5th anniversary and not on the 20th.  And, I imagine most of you haven't forgotten either.  I do believe it is up to us to make sure our children don't forget what it was like and how it changed our lives.  I'm glad that my kids' school had red, white, and blue day today.  I do think some people are too relaxed about it.  I remember when the whole nation was standing together at that time.  Now the two sides of government can't even agree on what color the sky is.  Maybe those people need to be reminded.  Maybe that's why it's on non-stop.  But, I'm guessing they're not watching TV or listening to the radio.  I wish I was wrong.

I just want it to be tomorrow.

THE WORST

I asked a friend of mine to come up with this list.  I realized I should never ask someone to do what I am unwilling to do.  So, here we go:

What are the 5 Worst Movies You've Ever Seen?

I am not including sequels.  Too easy.  Oh, and I had to actually see them, not just hear they were bad and avoid them.

  • The Gods Must Be Crazy (I'm pretty sure I took a nap during this one.  If it hadn't been a dollar show AND I hadn't been with friends (so, I couldn't leave since I didn't drive), I would really hate myself for spending 2 hours of my life this way.
  • Doogal A very good friend recommended this movie.  Snoozorama!  Karen and I sat down to watch it and we couldn't even watch the whole thing.
  • Cats and Dogs Granted, this is a kids' movie, but I really hated this one.
  • The Island I didn't like this movie when they called it Logan's Run
  • Corky Romano I really wanted to like this movie, but you can't always get what you want.

While writing this list, I kept coming up with movies that I personally liked, but the rest of the world probably hated.  Like "Straight Talk" with Dolly Parton and James Woods.  Don't know why, but I like that one.

Jayson hated "A Knights Tale."  I loved it.   In fact, I even occasionally use a line from it, "You have been weighed and measured and been found wanting."  What's not to like about that?

"Mystery Men" I found very funny, but then again, I'd had some wine with dinner.

Okay, so feel free to scream at me.  I think I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to movies.  This list took much longer than I expected to write!

Where Are the Bees?

The family just drove out to our campsite today after church (only to be rained on while we were there) but it was just a nice drive so we could kind of clean it up and get it ready for fall camping.  YEAH!  I love to camp in the fall.  I have great memories of camping with my family and just sitting around the campfire at night talking and laughing.  We had a camper and I loved the sound of the heater kicking on.  I didn't love the sound of my father snoring, but that's another story.

ANYWAY (anyway) on our way back home on Hwy 70, Tom says, "There's Stuckey's!"  Of course, he was wrong, and I had to point it out.  "No, that's Nickerson Farms.  Stuckey's had a blue roof."  I got the look of "whatever."  Then, I said, "Do you remember the bees at Nickerson Farms?"  Tom had never heard of the bees!!!  Please tell me you all have.  Remember the beehive that was inside the restaurant but was enclosed in plastic, so you could see the bees working away, but couldn't get stung?  Of course, they sold honey.  And, you had to be a little careful when you parked near the outlet of the beehive.  I was deathly afraid of bees then, but fascinated by the beehive.  Scary, but safe at the same time.  Now I'm sure you couldn't do that kind of thing because someone would get stung and sue the pants off you.  End of story.

Oh, well, gotta put the kids to bed.  (Oh yeah, by the way, I love my kids.  They can crack me up like nobody's business.)

It is already the last day of August.  Where did the time go?  How can Christmas be coming around the corner so quickly?

I had such a great time over the weekend because I attended my friend Beth's bachelorette party.  What a blast!  We went to Montelle Winery and laughed until our sides hurt.  There was a guy there who told me that he used to be a stripper.  (right.)  Then when I didn't ask his stage name (they have names?), he told me he was surprised I hadn't.  So, of course, I did.  It was "Chester!"  CHESTER?!  THAT was what he picked as his stage name?  okaaaay.  I was old enough to be his mother (let's never speak of that again), but he was entertaining just the same.  (no not like that)

I'm getting back into the swing of things as far as scheduling goes, so hopefully, once all the volunteer opportunities get scheduled, I'll still have time to do other stuff.  :)

The weather is nice and cool and that is my favorite thing about life!  YAHOOOOO!
