Minnesota... well, it's beautiful. flying over Minneapolis/St. Paul was like going to a foreign country. there were so many lakes & marshes- very strange compared to Ohio's endless cow pastures. it's also buggy. i don't think i've ever seen so many mosquitos in my life. or spiders, for that matter. i've become a professional bug exterminator, that's for sure. my photo program room/darkroom hadn't been touched in years, and the cobwebs alone were threatening to take over. and i think i met the world's largest mosquito in the shower. it looked like a hybrid between a spider and a mosquito. no worries- it's R.I.P. somewhere in the MN sewer system. there's also a lot of weird weather here. we went tornado chasing one night on a Subway run out to town. the sky was GREEN! and we saw so many strange cloud formations, i don't think there are even names for them all! we have hot and sticky days like back home, but we also have chilly 50-60's days interspersed, so it's always an adventure stepping outside in the morning. and it's also a great learning experience. i'm testing my boundaries and learning about my limits. i think i have a better idea of what real patience is, and what determination it takes to be patient. i now know that i can't handle everything. i can do what i can do, the best that i can do... but that's it. there are certain situations that are out of my control. and i've learned that these are the times when asking for help and sometimes having to say 'no' come to the rescue. and finally, i've also met a lot of GREAT people. the staff here are amazing people, and i am very thankful for this opportunity to learn and work beside them. we laugh together, vent, cry, and go crazy together, and we work to make this camp fun for kids. these people, and the things they can do, are simply amazing! i can't wait to get back to HOME SWEET HOME, good ol' Ohio. and i think i'm going to appreciate my life & everything in it a whole lot more this time around... |
